Review + Swatches: Lime Crime Opaque Lipsticks

This post was requested by Lolo! Since there are a lot of mixed reviews for Lime Crime, I'll definitely post an honest review along with lip swatches for the lipsticks I own from them.

I own these four shades: Coquette, Countess Flourescent, Retrofuturist, and Glamour 101 (my newest addition).

Lip swatches and individual reviews for each shade (since the finishes are different):
Coquette is a peach-based nude color. This applies very easily and isn't too drying. The color is very pigmented, but can be buildable for those who want a more pale look or those who want a more natural look. I think because this nude is buildable, it can definitely suit many different skin tones. Very versatile and would look lovely paired with a tinted lipgloss!

Countessa Flourescent is a cool based neon pink color. It shows up pretty glossy on the official Lime Crime website swatch, but this actually applied quite matte on myself. This is incredibly pigmented, but so much so that it's kind of hard to apply from the tube. This formula is very drying, but leaves a stain and wears for a very long time.

Retrofuturist is a bright red color, I'd like to call this a "Snow White red". I love how it looks on the lips, a bit glossy but with a good punch of color! This is another incredibly drying formula, which makes it hard to apply and can be very bad on lips without proper preparation (exfoliation and lip balm). This is very pigmented and leaves a stain. When I wore this on Christmas it lasted for over 10 HOURS on my lips without reapplying, but left the condition of my lips as a hot mess.

Glamour 101 is a brownish red color. It's darker than Retrofuturist and not as bright. This goes on as easily and has the same amount of moisture as Coquette, with their formulas being pretty similar. This isn't as drying and leaves a stain.

Overall these lipsticks come in unique colors with a yummy cinnamon/vanilla scent with the wear time on them being insane compared to other makeup brands! However, the downside is that these lipsticks tend to be incredibly drying due to the amount of pigment in the lipsticks. You will definitely need to exfoliate your lips and apply lip balm before wearing any of these shades, even the ones that are less drying (Coquette and Glamour 101). I definitely also recommend having a lip brush handy when using any of these, as they might get streaky around the edges of the lips.

So would I recommend them? Yes and no. These lipsticks definitely require a lot of patience and prep to use them. The payoff however is lasting color that doesn't need reapplying for hours on end.

Where to buy?
Lime Crime, $15.99
Urban Outfitters, $16
CutECOsmetics, £11.50 (UK)

    1. I agree they absolutely look beautiful when applied correctly! I used my Bobbi Brown lip brush in case you were wondering. I've tried applying with a cheaper lip brush and it just didn't look the same LOL
